"Correspondências é um projeto de troca cultural e muito enlevo pela outra cultura."

Two women living thousands of miles apart on different continents in different hemispheres find a common interest in animals, and soon they are observing and enjoying the lives of falcons in Rochester, New York -- the one woman from Rio de Janeiro, the other from North Tonawanda, New York.

Without plan or intention, the two become friends. E-mails flow back and forth about falcons and animals and children and computers and web art and traditional art and literature and geography and the seasons and treasures and food.

The result is Regina Pinto's and Martha Deed's Correspondences project: an installation that lives and grows on each author's web site, consisting of graphics, videos, poetry and emails, and sound -- depicting linkages and contrasts between two very different places: urban, sophisticated tropical Rio on the sea and North Tonawanda, a small canal-side city in a rural area of upstate New York. Pages range from seasonal contrasts (photos taken at the same time in each location at Winter/Summer solstice and Vernal/Autumn equinox), to walks in the park and food preparation confusions that explore the complexity of both translation and cross-cultural transmission (what is a potato masher? a spatula? baking powder?) Each one knows, but what one knows is not the same for both.

The current installation represents a half-year cycle. We hope you will enjoy your visit. You can begin in Rio or North Tonawanda:

Duas mulheres vivendo milhões de milhas separadas, em diferentes continentes, em diferentes hemisférios encontram um interesse especial em animais, e logo elas estão observando e apreciando as vidas dos falcões em Rochester, New York -- uma mulher no Rio de Janeiro, e outra em North Tonawanda, New York.

Sem plano ou intenção, as duas tornam-se amigas. E-mails voam para lá e para cá sobre falcões e animais e crianças e computadores e web art e arte tradidicional e literatura e geografia e estações do ano e tesouros e comida.

O resultado é o "Projeto Correspondências" por Regina Pinto e Martha Deed: uma instalação que vive e cresce no website de cada artista, consistindo de imagens, vídeos, poesia e emails, e som -- mostrando semelhanças e contrastes entre dois lugares muito diferentes: o urbano, sofisticado e tropical Rio beira mar e North Tonawanda, uma pequena cidade ao lado do canal Erie, numa área rural do estado de New York. As diversas páginas mostram contrastes sazonais (fotos feitas ao mesmo tempo em cada cidade, durante o solistício Verão/Inverno e no equinócio Outono/Primavera) , caminhadas pelos arredores e preparação de comida - confusões que exploram a complexidade da tradução e transmissão de culturas que se entrecruzam (o que é um espremedor de batatas? uma espátula? fermento em pó?) Cada uma sabe, mas o que cada uma sabe não é o mesmo para as duas.
